FluMarTurb
Pluid dynamics design of turbomachinery for low-impact marine energy plants
Scope: Shipbuilding and marine technologies
Duration: September 2015 – December 2016
Fluid dynamics design of turbomachinery for marine power plants, tailored to the growing use and development in the naval field and tailored to market demands: compactness and lower weight for the same power output, increased efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. Research will focus on three main areas:
- Fluid dynamics design of compact steam turbines for low environmental impact naval propulsion systems
- Fluid dynamic design of high-performance, low-environmental-impact centrifugal pumps
- Development of a software for CFD analysis of tanks and channels for the supply of seawater to pumping stations and of a tool for optimizing the geometry of pump suction cells
