RIMA
RIMA: development of technologies and software for an Integrated Mediterranean Forecasting Network for the management of the marine and coastal environment
Scope: Environmental Technologies
Duration: October 2012 – September 2016
This project was proposed following an analysis of current marine operating systems, deemed misaligned with EC strategies, which highlights the need for an integrated marine observation and forecasting system. The RIMA project aims to develop a cutting-edge information system (technology and software) for managing and accessing forecast data and to promote the technological development of platforms aimed at optimizing them. The project also aims to demonstrate that the availability of real-time sea state data and forecasts can help prevent environmental and infrastructure problems. The most urgent use cases for the project could include:
- monitoring, in line with European directives
- forecast of transport of hydrocarbons spilled into the sea, dispersion maps of pollutants for coastal/port areas
